Oliver Weeks is a British composer, guitarist, pianist and arranger working across a wide range of genres including Western classical & contemporary music, Bengali traditional music, metal, electronica and Rock ‘n’ Roll. After reading music at Clare College, Cambridge he obtained a Ph.D in composition from the Royal Academy of Music (2007).
His work has been commissioned and performed by the City of London Sinfonia, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Endymion Ensemble, the BBC Singers, Royal Academy Soloists and the Mercury Quartet. In 2011-12, Oliver was Cambridge University Musical Society’s inaugural composer-in-residence. He has written music for the theatre in both India and the UK.
In addition to composition he is a founding member (on piano) of London underground prog metal oufit Astrohenge
, and of the band Khiyo
with British-Bangladeshi vocalist Sohini Alam
. He is also active as a piano rep and guitarist for both opera and musical theatre and a prolific arranger with over a decade of experience in the music publishing industry.
